Morrison, manager of PIP Fund II, confirms that the ShapEd consortium it is leading has been awarded the contract for the Ministry of Education’s Schools third Public Private Partnership (PPP3), following PIP Fund II’s selection as preferred bidder four weeks ago.
Executive Director of PIP Fund II, Steven Proctor, said the short timeframe between being selected as the preferred bidder and being awarded the PPP contract reflects the maturity of the PPP model in New Zealand, particularly in the school sector.
"A key benefit of the increasingly streamlined process for bidding PPP projects in New Zealand is that it enables preparatory work on the initial five new schools covered by the new PPP contract to get underway immediately, meaning the schools will start educating New Zealand’s future leaders in 2019," said Mr Proctor.
Under this PPP contract with the Ministry of Education, the ShapEd consortium will design, construct and maintain (for 25 years following construction) five new schools in Auckland, Hamilton and Christchurch. The contract allows for further schools to be added to the contract subject to demonstrating value for money to the Ministry.
The ShapEd consortium consists of PIP Fund II, CPB Contractors and South Island-based Southbase Construction, Pacific Partnerships, ASC Architects and Spotless Facility Services. The construction team will be onsite from this week.
