Morrison opens NY office and appoints Gary Sugarman to expand US infrastructure business

Morrison has appointed Gary Sugarman, Principal of Richfield Associates Inc., to drive its infrastructure investment activities in the digital sector.

Morrison established its New York office in 2020 to expand its presence in North America, building on three decades of successful infrastructure and alternative asset investing.

For over 25 years, Mr. Sugarman has invested in and operated telecom and data companies. He is currently Principal of Richfield Associates Inc., a firm he founded in 1993, to provide advice to telecom companies to access capital via equity investments.  He was also the Managing Member of Richfield Capital Partners, a fund he formed in 2010, to deliver working capital investments to the technology sector.

Morrison & Co has deep investment and operating experience in digital infrastructure, holding investments in Vodafone New Zealand and CDC Data Centres, on behalf of investors.  It has an established track record of successful early digital infrastructure investment across integrated mobile carriers, data centers, enterprise fiber and registries businesses throughout Europe and Australasia.

The firm is actively growing its US investment portfolio by leveraging its key investment themes of decarbonisation, data and connectivity, and social infrastructure.  Within the US, it currently manages investments in renewable energy firm, Longroad Energy, and Clearvision Ventures, an infra-tech fund.

Mr Sugarman will advise Morrison & Co’s US team on investment opportunities within the data center, fiber and connectivity sectors. He will also provide mentorship and strategic counsel to senior executives of the firm’s portfolio companies.
