Morrison launches philanthropy program

With a long-standing history of corporate philanthropy, this year Morrison has launched a new philanthropic investment initiative, helping nurture our culture of community giving.

In 2024, we invested NZD 500,000 in six organisations, selected by our employees.

Our commitment to giving is a strategic decision that reflects our values and purpose. Our dedicated Philanthropy Committee, comprised of representatives from each of our global offices, selected six outstanding causes that align with our values, demonstrate potential for long-term impact, enable our people to participate and offer high potential for long-term societal improvements.

While we’re a global company, we understand that our impact is most effective when it starts at the local level. It gives our teams the opportunity to cultivate relationships with local charities and get involved at a grassroots level, making a real and enduring positive difference. The inaugural recipients are:

  • Dwell Housing Trust (Wellington, New Zealand): Dwell works tirelessly to provide affordable, quality housing for people and families in need or on low incomes, giving them access to the services and support to improve their general living conditions.
  • I Have A Dream Charitable Trust (Auckland, New Zealand): This education-focused program empowers and supports young people living in under-resourced communities to reach their fullest potential. It provides students with academic enrichment, long-term mentoring, and the skills to achieve their dreams.
  • Food Ladder (Australia): An organisation dedicated to eradicating food insecurity, Food Ladder's innovative approach to empowering communities through sustainable and hydroponic farming solutions aligns with our investment in sustainable development and the circular economy.
  • Sponsors for Educational Opportunity (SEO) (UK): SEO provides high-calibre educational and career programs to young people from underserved and underrepresented communities, to maximise their opportunities to achieve college and career success.
  • Association to Benefit Children (New York, USA): ABC works to improve the lives of thousands of vulnerable children and their families through humane and innovative programs that help break the cycle of intergenerational poverty.
  • AIDHA (Singapore): AIDHA creates opportunities for domestic and foreign workers, as well as lower-income Singaporean women, through financial education, microfinance, and entrepreneurship opportunities.

With these partnerships, we aim to create real and sustained change that helps enhance the lives of those whom these organisations serve.

At Morrison, we view philanthropy as an integral component of our purpose and identity. After more than three decades of investing in businesses that provide essential services, we firmly believe that local community initiatives can deliver outstanding results. Our investments, and our philanthropic efforts, reflect our purpose to invest wisely in ideas that matter.
